Taming the Mind through Mindfulness: An Introduction to Buddhist Practice 

Through the practice of shamatha or “calm abiding” meditation, we cultivate mindfulness, which makes us familiar with our moment-to-moment mental experience of perceptions, feelings, and thoughts.  Then we can begin to develop our thoughts and actions in a direction that is beneficial for ourselves and others.  This talk will focus on the purpose and philosophy of basic tranquillity meditation in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

The First Wednesday Series is a series of free public talks on working with the mind through meditation by Lama Nancy Burks.
