Meditative Visualization Workshop And Refuge Ceremony
November 19, 2016 @ 10:00 am - November 20, 2016 @ 4:30 pm
Through deity meditation, we gain access to the fundamentally pure qualities of our own inherent Buddha nature–qualities such as loving-kindness, compassion, and wisdom. The most universal deity in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition is Chenrezig, traditionally known as the “Lord of Love” for his supreme compassion toward all living beings. During this weekend, we will go through the Chenrezig text practiced at the Ann Arbor KTC and learn how to do the practice. Lama Nancy Burks will explain how to generate the proper motivation, develop the visualization of Chenrezig, recite his mantra, dissolve the visualization, and meditate in the ensuing state of emptiness. Following that, we arise with the understanding that our own nature is none other than that of Chenrezig.
Each session will include instruction, Chenrezig practice, and discussion.
Prior to the afternoon session on Saturday, Lama Nancy will offer the Refuge Ceremony. By taking Refuge in the Three Jewels (the Buddha, his teachings, and his community), one formally enters the Buddhist path in order to benefit all sentient beings.
