Recognizing the Mind through Insight: Vipassana Meditation in the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition
There are two main meditation practices on the Buddhist path: “calm abiding” (shamatha) and “clear seeing” (vipassana). Once a basic level of mental stability has been cultivated through shamatha, there are several approaches to practicing vipassana (also called “insight” meditation) in the Karma Kagyu school of Buddhism. This talk will outline these approaches and their eventual goal, Mahamudra.
The First Wednesday Series is a series of free public talks on working with the mind through meditation by Lama Nancy Burks.
