SUMMARY:EVENT POSTPONED Khenpo Ugyen Tenzin Visit
DESCRIPTION:  \nWe are sorry to announce that Khenpo Ugyen Tenzin will be postponing his visit to the Ann Arbor KTC. \nWe will update the calendar when we have a new date. \nA native of Bhutan\, Khenpo Ugyen was born in 1955 and became a monk at the age of 19. He received the Acharya (Master’s) degree in Buddhist Studies in Rumtek\, Sikkim\, at the age of 25\, and soon after was appointed a khenpo (professor). He then taught Buddhist philosophy at monasteries in Bhutan and India\, and at Dharma centers throughout Asia. \nIn 2005\, His Holiness the Gyalwang Karmapa sent Khenpo Ugyen to the United States to teach at KTD Monastery and its subsidiary KTC centers. Khenpo Ugyen has also done intensive meditation retreats both in Bhutan and the U.S. In addition to his formidable scholarship\, he is known for his kind and gentle manner–and his love of deathly hot food! DESCRIPTION:Starting March 15\, 2020 and continuing throughout the Year of the Rat\, the Ann Arbor KTC will host a Foundational Buddhism course. This series of talks\, one each third Sunday of the month (as part of our regular Sunday Service)\, will progressively introduce the foundations of Buddhism as presented in the traditional Sutras. \n\nConcepts from both the Theravada and Mahayana schools will be introduced in ways that encourage us to develop a compassionate and mindful way of living. Whether you are new to Buddhism and curious about its teachings\, or an advanced student seeking to strengthen your grounding in the fundamentals\, this course will have something for you. \nFoundations of Buddhism is offered free by the Ann Arbor KTC and no formal registration needed. While later talks build upon ideas introduced earlier\, you are welcome to drop in on whatever dates you are able. Talks begin at 11:15 am and include time for meditation.
